FMU | Restoring the Visual Clinician Series

Restoring the Visual Clinician Series-Part 1 of 4

Description:

For thousands of years, practitioners had to rely on their 5 senses to determine the cause of disease or dysfunction. Having a keen sense of smell, sight, sound, touch and even taste allowed the practitioner to observe other visual clues to point toward possible physiologic dysfunctions deeper within.

During this 6-hour seminar, practitioners will learn to identify common physical indicators seen on the body as a guide toward providing appropriate nutritional and lifestyle
recommendations for their patients, along with other diagnostic tools and assessments.

By understanding the subtle yet powerful clues seen on the exterior of the body, practitioners can incorporate these visual clues to gently confirm their diagnosis and observe the physical effects over time of the recommended interventions.

At the end of this seminar series practitioners will be able to:

• Recognize signs of possible dysfunction on the face and head
• Observe indicators of dysfunction on the skin and nails
• Understand the importance of facial features, relative size and distance from one another according to Chinese medicine practices
• Note possible abnormalities in the neck having to do with thyroid dysfunction
• Develop appropriate nutritional protocols to support normal physiology

Free to all FMU students past and present

This speaker has also done several series at FMU on western Master Herbalist approaches to Male and Female Hormones, Endometriosis, and recently Functional Blood Chemistry - all archived and free for FMU students.

Clinical Strategies to Address the Deleterious Effects of PPIs

Speaker: Robert G. Silverman, DC, DACBN, DCBCN, MS, CCN, CNS, CSCS, CIISN, CKTP, CES, HKC, SASTM

Description:

The use of a broad range of over-the-counter medications (OTCs) is on the rise. Studies show that long-term use of OTCs can cause a host of clinical problems. Patients often neglect to include the use of OTCs on intake forms, it is up to the
practitioner to take the extra steps toward uncovering the truth.

Imagine working with a patient to balance their microbiome while at the same time, unknown to you, and they’re taking a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) or trying t o fix a leaky gut for a patient who takes a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) daily.

Patients perceive OTC drugs as safe, but many aren’t, especially if used regularly. Long-term
use of PPIs, for example, has been shown to contribute to kidney disease, cerebral
ischemic diseases, dementia, ischemic cardiac diseases, bone fracture, pneumonia, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, and gut dysbios is. Continuous daily use of NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or aspirin, has been shown to cause liver damage, kidney damage, stomach and intestinal bleeding.

Educating patients on the dangers of long-term OTC/PPIs use and offering a safer, more effective alternative can save time and frustration for both you and the patient.

Key clinical takeaways:

Why it is important to identify daily OTC medication use in your patients.

What long-term use of some OTCs can do to the human body.

Safer, effective alternatives are available for many OTCs.

How to educate patients on the dangers of long-term use of OTCs and grow your practice.

Elucidate lifestyle/nutritional protocols to address the deletrious effects of PPIs

CNM Manage Chronic Fatigue Naturally

CFS by someone who has mastered her own condition.

CNM Manage Your Chronic Fatigue, Naturally

Wednesday, 7th April 2021 7pm – 8:30pm

Lauren Windas has built an impressive practice in the area of CFS having gone that journey herself, her passion really shows and she is well worth tuning in to.

Having had the ME/CFS journey myself [and I believe those are two different things!] one thing to note in the covid era is the presence of a lingering persistent stealth infection that looks like ‘regular’ CFS or ME, and I’m not hearing functional medicine or natural practitioners grasp that particular  nettle yet. Fact is and this can be seen in the research and experience of covid research doc Gustavo Aguirre Chang of the National University of San Marcos, Peru, the tests are false negatives a lot of the time on covid, the only way to eradicate any potential infection is act like it may be there with a sars specific protocol. One such protocol was covered by Dr Kevin Spelman NUNM in his 2016 lecture at FMU where he considered one possible cause of CFS/ME/FM to be viral and he happened to select precisely the herbs that hit the cytokine profile of a sars virus particularly well. While the TCM research shows 8 out of 10 of the top herbs for covid will work for sars what happens if you pick the two that don’t! It’s no great mystery, Stephen Harrod Buhner has laid it all out quite clearly as to which herbs will work for sars and how many you really need to take, no monotherapies here. Also other schools of healing have done similarly with western herbs, ayurvedic etc. I will cover this in another post, but just to note Lauren put this talk and her practice together before covid, I do hope she and everyone else out there updates for the anti-viral arm
